What is UCAT?

In 2019, the name of this examination was officially changed from its original title, the UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT). It is noteworthy that while the test’s nomenclature underwent modification, the substantive content and structure of the examination remained unaltered. The UCAT continues to serve as an unchanging benchmark for assessing the cognitive and situational reasoning skills of prospective medical and dental students, ensuring the ongoing selection of qualified candidates for these demanding disciplines.

What Does the UCAT Test?
The UCAT evaluates several cognitive abilities and attributes that are essential for a medical practitioner.
The UCAT exam is a multiple-choice test divided into 5 parts.
Verbal Reasoning is an analytical thinking and reasoning skills test with 44 questions. Give yourself 21 minutes to complete. Scores will be between 300 – 900 points.
Decision Making is a decision-making skills test, and using judgment from complex information, totaling 29 questions. Allow 31 minutes to complete the exam. Scores will be between 300 – 900 points (2 points for each question).
Quantitative Reasoning is a quantitative reasoning ability test. Concerning mathematics skills, totaling 36 questions. Allow 25 minutes to complete the exam. Scores will be between 300 – 900 points.
Abstract Reasoning is an abstract reasoning ability test. Relationship of various data, 50 questions. Give the test 12 minutes. Score will be between 300 – 900 points.
Situational Judgment is decision-making skills in real-life situations and understanding of medical ethics in 22 situations, with 69 questions, allowing 26 minutes to complete. Scores are given on a scale of 1 to 4, with one being the highest and four being the lowest.

Abstract Reasoning เป็นการทดสอบความสามารถด้านการใช้เหตุผลเชิงนามธรรม ความสัมพันธ์ของข้อมูลต่างๆ จำนวน 50 ข้อ ให้เวลาในการทำข้อสอบ 12 นาที คะแนนจะอยู่ระหว่าง 300 – 900 คะแนน
Situational Judgement เป็นการทดสอบทักษะการตัดสินใจในสถานการณ์ความเป็นจริง และความเข้าใจในจริยธรรมทางการแพทย์ 22 สถานการณ์ ผ่านคำถามจำนวน 69 ข้อ ให้เวลาในการทำข้อสอบ 26 นาที คะแนนจะระบุเป็นช่วงระหว่าง 1 ถึง 4 โดย 1 คือสูงสุดและ 4 คือต่ำสุด
The Differences Between UCAT - MCAT - BMAT
While the content of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) distinctly varies from the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) and the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), a comparative analysis can be drawn in terms of the examination duration. The UCAT, when administered as a whole, requires approximately 120 minutes to complete. It is noteworthy that the UCAT primarily consists of multiple-choice questions, resulting in a significantly higher number of questions in comparison to the BMAT.
Furthermore, the UCAT employs a scoring system with a maximum attainable score of 3,600, underscoring its comprehensive evaluation of candidates’ cognitive abilities. To enhance the prospects of securing admission into a medical school, it is recommended that candidates aim for scores exceeding 650 in each individual component of the UCAT. Such high scores are indicative of a strong aptitude and can substantially bolster a candidate’s candidacy in the competitive medical school admissions process.

UCAT Exam Schedule
For the exam schedule in 2024, Account applications will open in May. Open to reserve seats in June for the exam and held tests from July to the end of September. The test taker can choose the date they want to take the test themselves. The scores will be sent to the university in November of the same year.
