AP (Advanced Placement) is a US-based program by the College Board that offers college-level courses to high school students. It’s ideal for students applying to US or international universities.

Note: AP is not a replacement for a high school diploma. It’s used alongside your GPA and transcript to show academic rigor. High AP scores can strengthen your application but must be supported by strong grades and graduation from an accredited high school program.

AP courses show universities you're ready for college-level work and may earn you college credit or advanced placement—saving time and tuition in university. In some high schools, APs also boost your GPA through weighted grading (e.g., an A in an AP course may count as 5.0 instead of 4.0). Even if GPA isn’t weighted, APs still demonstrate academic rigor and can strengthen your application.

AP exams are offered once a year, during the first two weeks of May.

The AP exam assessment criteria are graded on a scale of 5 levels:

• 5 – Extremely Well Qualified

Students need to score at least a 3 to pass the exam for that subject. Most universities in the USA accept AP scores of 4 and 5, but some universities also accept scores of 3.

The AP exam registration fee is 124 USD per subject. To register, you can contact AP Services and take the exam at a test center, which can be an American curriculum international school in Thailand that offers AP courses and is approved as a test center.
