US System

All subjects require three standardised test scores, and these can be a variety of different combinations provided they are in different subjects.

Achieving the following grades will not guarantee you a place at Edinburgh, but will make you a competitive applicant.

Examples of our minimum entry requirements in the standardised tests are:

  • ACT score of 27 plus two AP scores at 4+ or two SAT subject tests at 650+
  • SAT score of 1290+ (650+ in Evidence based reading and Writing and 620+ in Math) plus two AP scores at 4+ or two SAT subject tests at 650+
  • 3 AP scores at 4+
  • 3 SAT Subject Test scores of 650+
  • A combination of the AP and SAT, such as 1 AP score at 4+ and 2 SAT Subject Tests at 650+

A combination of AP and SAT Subject tests are acceptable, provided they are in different subjects. Please note AP scores are used for admissions purposes only, and no advanced credit is awarded as there is no core curriculum in Scotland. AP Research is not accepted as meeting one of the three required.

English Language Requirements

  • Trinity ISE: ISE II with a distinction in all four components.

Personal Statement

Depending on the degree you are applying for, admissions staff will be looking for different things from your personal statement. Generally, however, your personal statement should:

  • explain why you want to study the subject you have applied for
  • demonstrate a clear understanding of what the subject involves at degree level
  • detail your relevant skills, qualities and experience and state how these have been developed
  • show that you understand the implications of your choice on your career aspirations

Academic Reference

If you are applying from a school, college or registered UCAS centre, a teacher or tutor who knows you – your referee – will write your reference before submitting your application.

If you are not currently in education and apply independently, you can ask a registered school, college or centre you recently attended, or an employer, if they would be willing to write a reference. Once you have agreement from your referee, add their details to the reference page of your application and UCAS will contact them.
