Academics

Applicant Eligibility:

  • You are completing an internationally-recognized equivalent, such as the IB Diploma; or
  • You are applying from countries with school leaving qualifications based on the British educational model, and will have completed the A-level equivalent (neither O-levels nor (I)GCSE results will be sufficient for admission); or
  • You are currently enrolled in a foundation year program outside of the United States; or
  • Your highest degree earned by the time you plan to enroll at NYU is either a certificate or diploma.

Standard Test Scores

NYU's standardized testing policy requires applicants to submit one of the following scores:

  • SAT; or
  • ACT; or
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or
  • Three (3) SAT Subject Test scores; or
  • Three (3) AP Exam scores; or
  • Three (3) IB higher-level exam scores if not an IB Diploma candidate; or
  • Other international examinations that show you completed, or if submitting predicted results show you will complete, your secondary education. 

 

SAT Subject Tests

If you choose to submit three (3) SAT subject test scores to fulfill the standardized testing requirement, you are required to send at least one (1) score from each of the following academic areas:

  • Literature & Humanities
  • Math & Science
  • The third Subject Test may be in any subject area.
  • The Stern School of Business requires one of the subject exams to be Math Level 1 OR Math Level 2.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

  • We require predictions or official scores for 6 subjects for Full IB Diploma students, we do not require predictions for the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
  • NYU accepts the Higher and Standard Levels of either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation for any major at NYU.
  • However, applicants applying into Math, Engineering, or Business programs are encouraged to take either the higher or standard level of Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Higher Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.

 

IB Higher-Level Exams

If you choose to submit three (3) IB Higher-Level Exam predicted or final scores to fulfill the standardized testing requirement, you are required to send at least one (1) score from each of the following academic areas:

  • Literature & Humanities
  • Math & Science: NYU accepts the Higher and Standard Levels of either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation for any major at NYU. However, applicants applying into math, engineering, or business programs are encouraged to take either the higher or standard level of Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Higher Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.
  • The third Higher-Level Exam may be in any subject area.
  • The Stern School of Business requires one of the exams to be mathematics.



GCE Advanced Level Examinations

Application requirements:

  • GCSE/IGCSE/O Level Official Results Certificates for all exams taken
  • Additional transcripts/internal reports whenever possible
    Predictions for all subjects are accepted

Enrollment Requirements if admitted:

  • Testing: Provisional Results/Statement of Results are required immediate following A Level Results day. Final A Level Certificates are required once available.
  • Proof of Graduation: Final A-Level results certificates, which must be sent directly from the school or exam board by email, or mailed to our partner, ECE, for authentication. 

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

If you choose to submit three (3) AP Exam scores to fulfill the standardized testing requirement, you are required to send at least one (1) score from each of the following academic areas:

  • Literature & Humanities
  • Math & Science
  • The third AP Exam may be any subject area.
  • The Stern School of Business requires one of the exam scores to be in math.

English Language Requirement

International applicants must submit one of the following English Proficiency Test Scores:

 

  • 100 and above on the TOEFL iBT
  • 125 and above on the Duolingo English Test
  • 7.5 and above on the IELTS Academic
  • 70 and above on the PTE Academic
  • 191 and above on the Cambridge English Scale

4.5 and above on the iTEP

Personal Statement

Tell us about who you are, as a student and a person, in 250-500 words (approximately 1 page typed). You may select a topic of your choice.

Two Letters of Recommendation

NYU requires first-year applicants to submit two letters of recommendation. One must be from a school counselor. The second must be from a teacher who has taught you.
